Kendal Town moved up to sixth in the table after they battled to a 1-0 home win over Ossett Town.

Charlie Bailey’s goal in the 30th minute proved to be enough for Kendal who made it two wins from two games.

The Mintcakes started the game on the front foot and were almost ahead on the third minute after Bailey’s clinical pass released Ollie Wood into the box. However Wood who closed in on goal saw his attempted finish pushed away by Ossett keeper Leigh Overton.

After a bright start by David Foster's team, Ossett began to dominate possession without being able to find a finish in front of goal.

However while Ossett were in control, Kendal remained calm and composed as they defended solidly from the back.

The visitors created their first opportunity after 20 minutes after Danny Frost saw his powerful effort well saved by Will Kitchen.

However it was Kendal who made the breakthrough on the half-hour mark when Bailey capitalised on a defensive mix up and the former Morecambe player ran round the Ossett keeper to score.

The goal that came against the run of the play was well worked after good passing play from the whole team caught the Ossett defence out.

Ossett desperate for the equaliser dominated play, while their woes in front of goal continued, however Kendal got to grips with the game after they starved the visitors of possession as the half-time whistle blew.

In the second half both sides made a tentative start, with Sam Bailey’s free kick the only shot on target in the early exchanges of the half.

Ossett had spells of possession, while Kendal’s defence cleared any danger posed by the visitors.

Kendal almost made the game safe in the 65th minute when Wood slotted the ball wide of the right-hand post after the pacy striker cut inside from the left.

Ossett desperate for the equaliser created two key opportunities as Roy Fogarty saw his finish go wide of the post, while Kitchen made a key save to deny Devonte Morton, after the former Morecambe youth team keeper put his body on the line to block the shot.

Morton continued to cause problems for Kendal as he blasted the ball over the bar, while Reece Farnhill's shot from distance went over.

Kendal though began to regain their composure, and were unfortunate not to seal the game after Danny Forbes' well-hit strike went into the stands while Ossett's last ditch attempt for an equaliser came to nothing after Andy Hawksworth's header was cleared.

In the end Kendal held on as they continue their good run of form.
