Keswick made a mixed start to the season after the 2016-2017 Westmorland Football league Campaign kicked off last Friday night.

The Division One title holders, who won the title in style last year, started off well enough after they sauntered past Penrith Reserves with a 7-2 win.

However, they didn’t have as much luck on Tuesday night after they were held to a surprise 2-2 draw against Windermere SC.

Kendal United, who finished second last season, made the perfect start to the new campaign after they collected two important wins.

On Saturday United defeated Wetheriggs Utd 2-1, with Dan Grindley and Danny Craig on target, while on Tuesday night theycame from a goal behind after they defeated Kendal County Reserves 4-1.

County opened the scoring through Jack Carradice, but Danny Craig, Brandon Croskell Robinson, Aiden Dent and Kyle Hansen sealed an emphatic win.

In the other games, Sedbergh Wanderers lead the way at the top of the table after they picked up two successive wins. On Saturday Shaun Gardner scored a hat trick after The Wanderers routed Ambleside United 5-0 and then they edged past Lunesdale United with a 3-2 win. Luke Packham, Oli Wales and Shaun Gardner were on target.

Appleby opened with two successive wins. On Saturday they defeated Burneside 4-2 at Hollins Lane. Antony Lund scored a second half brace. On Tuesday night Jordan Crawford and Bobby Atkinson both scored twice as they defeated Kirkoswald 4-2.

Pirelli defeated Ibis 4-2 at the weekend, while Ibis lost their second game in a row after they crashed to a 4-2 defeat at Burneside on Tuesday.

In Division Two, Endmoor defeated Dent 3-0 on Tuesday, Castletown United picked up a 1-0 win over Windermere SC Reserves, while Eden Thistle and Braithwaite battled out a 2-2 draw.

Elliot Oxley scored a hat trick as Sedbergh Wanderers Reserves opened their Division Three campaign with a 6-3 win at Penrith Academy. In the other games Penrith Town defeated Ibis reserves 3-2, while AFC Carlisle defeated Penrith Saints 3-0.
