BACKBARROW'S Tom Gibbs made it two wins out of two at the second race of this year's Lakeland Lanequest at Woodies in Silverdale.

The threat of rain, which never materialised, didn't dampen the enthusiasm of hardened Lanequesters, with a huge turnout of 155 riders of all ages and abilities competing and generally having huge fun in the various categories.

At the front end, competition was as fierce as ever, with Staveley rider and one half of last year's winning pairs team, Mike Toyn nearly but not quite preventing reigning champion Tom Gibbs from Backbarrow completing his second win in a row in this years' solo men's' class.

In the women's solo class, Jo Cleary, Zoe Harding and Helen Jackson finished in the same order as race one- one-two-three respectively .

Topping the results in the generation pairs were Paul and Jim O'Reilly on 220 points, conclusively beating last week's winners Eddie and Andrew Leatham on 160 points into second place

The real popularity of Lakeland Lanequests lies in its appeal to riders of all ages and abilities competing for overall honours in each class.

The Jennison family were seen to be having huge fun completing the mini course of five locally placed family oriented control points - mum Lauren, and children Kate, two, and Tom aged six.

As usual, the Adult Pairs /3's class proved the most popular class. Taking advantage of the fact that last week's winners, Bruce Attwood and Sally Ward, were this week's organisers, James Annan and Julia Hargreaves topped the other 25 teams (and 75 cyclists) to take the honours on 250 points, 10 points ahead of regulars Sarah and Andrew Crozier.
