Netherfield climbed to the top of the Twenty-20 North One group after a comfortable 41 run victory over Penrith on Tuesday night.

Ben Barrow's first innings top score of 67 off 51 balls helped Netherfield to a more than competitive total of 150-5, before a second innings return of 3-33 by Joel Bibby restricted Penrith as the visitors closed on 109-6.

On a cloudy night at Parkside Road, Netherfield won the toss and elected to bat. However for the first three overs Netherfield struggled to get going as they lost the wicket of Ben Phillips, who picked out Bruce Glendinning off the bowling of Greg Hall.

Netherfield professional Tom Bruce put on a quick-fire knock of 30 off 18 balls to restore parity. The knock, which included five fours and one six, came to an end after the Kiwi professional was bowled by Nicky Burns, with the hosts back under pressure on 37-2.

Despite the dismissal of Bruce, Netherfield regained quick control, as Ben Barrow and John Huck pushed the score on to 72. Huck, who batted for 16 off 18 balls, fell after he was bowled by Kriss Mclean.

Ben Barrow pushed the score on as he and Daniel Ingham propelled Netherfield to a more than competitive score of 112, and despite Ingham being bowled by Michael Hay for 11, the hosts remained comfortable.

With more runs to play for, Ben Barrow raced on to 67 off 51 balls, as the captain's knock came to an end after he was caught and bowled by Nicky Burns, and Netherfield closed on 150-5.

Penrith were never in the second innings as Netherfield were in complete control.

Chris Marrow and Keiron Trevaskis tried to get into the game as they put on a first wicket partnership of 16. However, Stuart Dixon put paid to the visitors' chances after he claimed the wicket of Trevaskis for 9, who picked out Ben Barrow.

Netherfield soon claimed a second and third wicket after Joel Bibby dismissed both Michael Hay and Chris Marrow as Penrith were reduced to 31-3.

Bibby, who usually features for the second team, finished on a return of 3-33 after he claimed the wicket of Jonothan Osbourne, while Lewis Richardson bowled Sam Hall for 4 with Penrith in further trouble as they were behind the run rate on 61-5.

Former Netherfield player Greg Hall batted well for the visitors as he played some good shots in a knock of 50 off 73 balls. However, Hall played one shot too many after he dragged the ball onto the wickets off the bowling of Daniel Ingham.

Both Eddie Robson and Bruce Glendinning stayed in for the final few overs, as Penrith closed on 109-6, with Netherfield comfortable winners.

Netherfield now host Kendal on Friday night in a key T20 encounter.
