STAVELEY-based road racing team Wheelbase Altura MGD took the Tour Series 2016 Northern Division Team prize.

The Tour Series is a town circuit series which runs throughout the UK in a format designed for TV and is broadcast twice a week on ITV4 to an audience of more than 150,000.

It is a style of racing known as a Criterium and is essentially a 1.5 to 2km circuit, raced by 60-80 people in teams of five, flat out against each other for one hour.

The Tour Series Northern Division comprised of rounds in Motherwell, Edinburgh, Durham and Stoke-on-Trent.

Within the five Northern teams it was Wheelbase Altura Mgd and Planet X Northside Pro Cycling who sparred it out at the top, with a big gap to third place rivals.

Planet X took the win in Motherwell, however a tricky and wet Edinburgh saw Wheelbase dominate and go clear by over five minutes. Another win for Wheelbase in Durham meant they had a good buffer.

Planet X put on a great performance in Stoke and pushed Wheelbase to the line which meant the latter won the series by a mere 33 seconds after a total of four hours race over the four rounds.
