A HUTTON Roof teenager is lacing up her shoes ahead of two major European races in the next few weeks.

Scarlet Dale, 16, in a break from studying for her GCSE exams at Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale, enjoyed a very successful half-term.

The Lancaster and Morecambe Athletic Club runner won the England Mountain running uphill only trial race for U18 girls up Winder and Arant Haw and has been selected to represent England U18s at the World Mountain Running Youth Cup at Janske Lazne, Czech Republic, on June 25.

Dale was part of the Great Britain and NI U20 Women's team who won silver medals at last year's World Mountain Running Championships.

And she will compete for GB again at this year's European Championships on July 2 at Arco, Italy, after placing second in the British trial at Whinlatter Forest behind Laura Stark of Glasgow.

The two other members of the U20 GB & NI U20 Women's team will be Bella Williams (Lincoln) and Heidi Davies (Brecon).

GB & NI are taking a 16 strong team to the Europeans - four senior men, four senior women (including Kendal's Sarah Tunstall and Howgill Harriers' Heidi Dent), four junior men and four junior women.

Kendal's Chris Richards of Helm Hill was selected as reserve for the Great Britain junior men's team (U20).

He placed fifth at Whinlatter in the British Championships.
