Kendal Ladies 2 - 0 Penrith

FIRST half goals from Joanne Thompson and Paula Doyle helped Kendal go joint top of the NWWRFL Table after defeating Penrith in the Cumbrian derby clash at The Pye Motors Stadium.

Town started the game on the front foot, outplaying the visitors as Thompson and Doyle came close in the early exchanges of the game.

When Kendal had to defend they never looked in any danger of conceding a goal, as Town prevented Penrith from any opportunity on goal.

As the half wore on Kendal pushed the visitors back, and were to be rewarded midway through the first half as Thompson was upended in the penalty box.

Thompson herself stepped up with a cool finish leaving Michelle Jones in the Penrith goal stranded.

With the half coming to a close Kendal grabbed a second on the stroke of half time, as Doyle latched onto a fine through ball to fire past Jones.

In the second half Kendal were solid at the back and always looked a threat going forward.

The neat passing and movement by the team made it impossible for Penrith to get into the game.

With the game winding down to the finish, Kendal began to run out of steam however Penrith were never going to get back into the contest as Kerri Mallinson came the closest on an otherwise easy afternoon for Lisa Rowlinson in the Kendal goal.

Kendal now have this Sunday off before travelling to play Preston North End Ladies on Sunday December 6.
