HEAVY rain put an end to Netherfield's chances of securing a cup double on Sunday - and now have to wait two weeks for the re-match.

With the t20 cup already in the bag, the Parkside Road club made the trip down the A590 to Barrow to face off against Cleator Moor in the Cumbria Cup Final.

But after being dismissed for 120 off 37 overs, the rain fell and brought a premature end to the proceedings.

It has now been rescheduled for September 6 at Furness Cricket Club with the action set to get underway at 12.30pm.

Skipper Marc Brown said: "We are both in the same position. We've seen what their strengths are but we have got to play to our strengths.

"People may have looked at the wicket and thought we should have bowled first. But we are better batting first and putting runs on the board and containing them so we just felt like that was the right call for us.

"We will go again and be a bit wiser about what they are about because when you are playing a final against someone you've never seen before it's a challenge. All credit to them, they bowled well and would have fancied themselves to win."

With John Huck sidelined after spraining a tendon in his knee, Netherfield got off slowly and lost opener Ben Barrow (0) in the first over.

Brown and Rick Potter then put on a 21 partnership before Potter and Klein put on a further 46 in a third-wicket stand.

Steady wickets followed as Netherfield were all out for 120 before the rain and storms arrived.

"They bowled well for the conditions and put the ball in the right areas to cause us trouble," said Brown.

"They are a decent cricket team who are together as a unit and were a tough opponent on the day. They were probably in the box seat but saying that with runs on the board in a final you don't really know what can happen."
