NEW boys Tom Kilifin and Sam Bailey helped Kendal Town maintain their winning start to the season with victory over Ossett Town on Saturday.

Kilifin, who scored in the Mintcake's opening day win at Farsley Celtic, opened the goalscoring early on before midfielder Bailey doubled the lead on the 23 minute mark.

Kendal's defence stayed strong as they held on to a clean sheet - but were helped when Ossett's Steven Jeff lashed over a late penalty.

Kendal dominated the first half and were ahead on three minutes when Kilifin scrambled home a rebound off Tom Morgan in the Ossett goal.

The home side then seized the initiative and could have been much further in front, had it not been for four or five top class saves by Morgan.

Danny Forbes had a good opportunity only for his long range effort to be parried over the bar by the visiting keeper before Bailey finished off a well worked move as he unleashed a spectacular curling effort leaving the keeper stranded.

Ossett created their first real opportunity as a corner led to a goal mouth scramble with Sanchez Payne blazing over the bar.

In the second half Ossett came to life as Kendal's defence stood firm.

The visitors created chances through Chris Ovington, who saw his header cleared off the line, before David Brown sent a shot flying over the bar and Nathan Curtis also had a header scrambled off the line.

Kendal, however, had chances of their own as Jordan Connerton's shot was blocked by the Ossett defence.

Ossett had a golden chance to make it a nervy few minutes for the home crowd when Ovington was judged to have been tripped by Rob Henry in the box.

Jeff stepped up confidently but his powerful drive flew over the bar and the final whistle was blown soon after.
