KENDAL skipper Chris Miller is confident his side can bring an end to a run of defeats when they host lowly St Annes this weekend.

The Shap Road club fell to their third straight loss at Penrith on Saturday after being dismissed for just 99 runs.

Miller and co. will be hoping for better fortune when the seaside outfit, who sit in 12th place ten points, make the trip up the M6 this weekend.

"They have been struggling a bit like ourselves so it's a must-win game for both of us," said Miller. "Obviously we want to finish as high as possible in the table so it's definitely a game we should be trying to win.

"I said to the boys at the end of the game you have to go into every match wanting to win or there is no point turning up. Hopefully we can put on a good performance and get a long overdue win."

The defeat at Penrith was Kendal's tenth of the season. The home side won the toss and put Kendal into bat.

Openers Darren Braithwaite and Ben Harrison put on 19 before Braithwaite (17) fell victim to the bowling of Greg Hall.

Paul Hindmarch then got the first of his six wickets when Jonathon Osborne caught Harrison (4) before Richard Herron (11) and Darren Nightingale (15) followed to leave Kendal on 62-4.

Saeed Bariwala hit four fours and one six on his way to a knock of 34 but by the time he was eventually dismissed by Michael Slack, Kendal were struggling on 96-7 and were not helped by the duck of professional Eldred Hawken.

Mark Williams (0) and Paul Fearnyough (2) were next to go as Penrith cleaned up Kendal's tail end.

Penrith were in no mood to mess around and reached the target in just 21.5 overs with Hindmarch top-scoring with 30 runs from 24 balls.

"It was another disappointing result," admitted Miller. "I thought we were at least 60 runs light so it was always going to be difficult to try defend that total on a small ground.

"Everybody seemed to get a start but got out at the wrong time so we never got any momentum going. Even if we got a partnership of 20 we would lose two quick wickets and were back at square one."
