WARTON and Netherfield A are locked in a frantic Division One championship race in the South Westmorland Seniors Bowling League.

While, crucially, Warton hold a five point advantage over their nearest rivals, both teams are showing no signs of title nerves.

Warton made no mistake, cruising past Windermere 6-2, while Netherfield A defeated KA Hale by the same scoreline.

Netherfield B occupy third spot with 71 points, but it looks to be a two horse race for the crown now.

In Division Two, Holme are still out in front, but they suffered a shock 7-1 reverse to Yorkshire outfit Ingleborough, denting their title hopes in the process.

But Bolton-le-Sands missed the chance to close the gap at the summit, crashing 6-2 at Warton.

Crosthwaite, in third, are enjoying a decent campaign, but they were held 4-4 by Subscription.

There’s a ding-dong title battle in Division Three too, with just seven points between leaders Milnthorpe and Staveley, who occupy fourth place after they overpowered the leaders 6-2.

Hawkshead remain deep in trouble at the foot of the table, but an 8-0 thrashing of fellow strugglers Allithwaite will have lifted the spirits following a miserable run of form.

Victoria, just a place above Hawkshead, lost 6-2 at Lower Holker.

Division Four leaders Burnside remain championship favourites after brushing aside Ingleborough 5-3 – but don’t write off Crosthwaite.

They kept up the hunt with an easy win over Endmoor while Sedburgh, a point behind, ran out 5-3 winners at Holme.

Bowness look doomed and a 6-2 home defeat at the hands of Levens did little to improve their perilous position.

Abbot Hall B remain favourites for the Division Five title after victory over Heversham B, while Burton-in-Lonsdale, in second place and seven points behind the leaders, breezed past Windermere 6-2 to keep them firmly on the trail of the leaders.
