BOXING'S Bentham brawler dominated his latest fight to claim a resounding points victory - but says he wishes the bout had lasted longer so he could have knocked his opponent out.

Tomi Tatham squared up to Welshman Jamie Ambler in Preston's Guild Hall on Saturday, June 27, and picked-off the much bigger man from the first bell.

The 26-year-old had trained for a six round fight but found out on the night that it had been changed to just four rounds and had to adjust his game plan.

'TNT' Tatham was the more assertive of the two fighters, looking to establish his jab early in the first round, which he won at a canter.

Ambler came out with a bit more purpose for the second round, which allowed Tatham to open him up more, showing an impressive range of aggressive techniques, but Ambler soon retreated to the ropes and used his superior height stay just out of Tatham's reach.

In what proved to be a close third round, the referee awarded the points to Ambler, who suddenly found himself back in the fight.

He caught Tatham with a couple of well-placed jabs and the Bentham man admitted that he had to hold himself back from 'going into war mode'.

But it was a good job he did as he kept his head for the final round which he comprehensively dominated to secure his eighth career win in front of 130 loyal travelling fans.

Tatham said: "It was a good win over an underrated fighter. He's mixed it with some really good company such as Tony Bellew and Paul Smith and they didn't knock him out but if it had been a six round fight I would have got to him."

He has emerged from this latest bout largely injury free, apart from slight muscle damage to his shoulder, which is good news for the man that spent a long time out nursing a hand injury.

"I'm back training - training while my opponents are resting," Tatham said.

"I'm hoping to be back in September and hopefully get an area title fight by the end of the year - my team thinks I'm ready for the step up."
