Farsley AFC 2 -3 Kendal Town

JORDAN Connerton celebrated signing a new contract with a brace as Kendal Town picked up only their fourth away win of the season with victory over Farsley AFC.

The hitman opened the goalscoring on 38 minutes before an Andrew Welsh double put the home side ahead.

But Zach Clark got his name on the scoresheet with a header on 66 minutes before Connerton added his second and Town's third to seal a rare three points away from the Lancaster and Morecambe College Stadium.

Connerton has now bagged 26 goals in 28 games since signing for Kendal in October.

And boss Michael Stringfellow is delighted the league's third most prolific sharpshooter will lead the line for an assault on the Evo-Stik First Division North play-offs next season.

"There were a number of clubs including top sides in our league who were interested in him but I felt it was important to get it done because he is really important for us," admitted Stringfellow. "He knows next year we will be pushing for those play-offs so it's a good start for us and hopefully there will be more top signings to come in the summer.

"I know when I am talking to players the first thing they will say is: 'Is Jordan staying?' so it will help in the fact he is our talisman and I am sure that will influence other players to come to us."

Kendal had failed to score in six of their last seven fixtures and Stringfellow was delighted with a return to the free-scoring side which has treated supporters to a glut of goals this season.

"We went there in a positive mood and played three up front to score goals," said Stringfellow. "It was an open game and it was only a matter of time before we started scoring again.

"The message was to go out, get the ball down and play. The young lads performed really well away from home and are getting better and better every week."

Kendal's campaign ends at home to Scarborough on Saturday and Stringfellow has urged his players to fight for the shirt next season.

"They are a side who are just below play-offs so it will be a good challenge for us," he said. "If we can play like we did Saturday there is no reason we cannot get three points. The lads need to go out there with a bit of self-belief and enjoy it. They are playing for their shirt next season. What I want most if for them to play well on Saturday and end the season in the right way."
