JAMIE How fell five runs short of a century as the Kiwi professional guided Kendal to a convincing eight-wicket win over Lancaster.

Lancaster opening batsman Michael Barry reached an impressive 107 but that was his team’s only stand-out performance as they were bowled out for 170.

Kendal chased down the total in just 23 overs for the loss of two wickets as How showed his class smashing 95 off 47 balls to continue the Shap Road outfit’s good late season form.

Kendal won the toss and elected to field but took until the ninth over until they made the breakthrough as Danny Welbourne (3) was caught by Chris Miller off the bowling of skipper Stu Parkin.

Jamie Heywood (12) and Charlie Swarbrick (4) fell next as Barry reached his half-century.

How snared Matt Crowther (12) in the 32nd over as Lancaster’s tail-end became exposed on 100-4 before Lawrie Atkinson (6), Scott Sparks (2) and Ben Simm (0) all went cheaply leaving the away side in real trouble at 137-7.

The dangerous Barry pushed on the total to 166 before Adam Cowperthwaite took the crucial wicket as he was caught by How.

Philip Sparrow (10) offered some resistance but Cowperthwaite bowled Matthew Liver for a golden duck before Liam Moffatt was run out to wrap up the innings with five balls left.

Cowperthwaite was the leading wicket taker as he finished on 4-46 from 13 overs while both How and Parkin returned economical figures of 2-26 and 2-22 respectively.

Kendal lost an early wicket as Darren Braithwaite (1) was trapped lbw by Liam Moffatt but that was as good as it got for Lancaster.

How came to the crease and his 14 fours and three sixes on his way to his 95 before he was caught by Heywood off the bowling of Simm.

By the time How was dismissed Kendal were just 35 runs off their target and Darren Moore, alongside Terry Hunte, took them to victory.

Moore hit a six taking him to 55 to end the match and give Kendal a deserved 12 points.
