ADAM Cowperthwaite starred with the ball as Kendal picked up their first win since early July beating Chorley by a narrow margin at Shap Road.

The Lancashire club had all of Kendal's batsmen back in the pavilion with 150 runs on the board but Cowperthwaite took six wickets as Chorley fell 17 runs short of the total to give the home side a deserved 15 points.

Chorley captain Andy Houldsworth won the toss and elected to bowl - a decision that looked to have proved significant when Joseph Tiffin caught opener Darren Braithwaite (3) off the bowling of Chris Harty early on.

New Zealand professional Jamie How came to the crease and with Darren Moore set about stabilising Kendal's innings.

The duo put on a stand of 54 before How (32) was bowled by Kieran McCullagh but not before the Kiwi smashed four fours and one six.

The wickets of Ryan Shepherd (17) and Graham Baker (7) saw Kendal on 119-4 and from there they struggled to create any more sizeable partnerships.

Moore (54) was finally dismissed when he was stumped by Andrew Houldsworth leaving Kendal on 124-5 and wickets then fell consistently.

Gaurav Dhar was the stand-out Chorley bowler taking 5-19 from his 10 overs.

But it was Cowperthwaite's bowling prowess which ultimately won the game for Kendal.

He got into the action after just three overs removing opener Holdsworth (5) via a Gary Baker catch before skipper Stu Parkin dismissed Ian Dickinson (2) in the eighth.

Cowperthwaite, crucially, bowled dangerous pro Mohammed Jamal for just 13 before Nick Lewthwaite snared David Fisher (25) to take the first of his two wickets.

Cowperthwaite removed Will Moulton (0) and Jack Catterall (4) in the 17th and 19th overs respectively to edge into the Chorley tail-end.

Dhar (8) offered little resistance as Lewthwaite trapped him lbw in the 20th leaving Chorley struggling on 64-7. The game looked to be heading towards a rampant win - but McCullagh had other ideas smashing 54 not out off 44 balls including eight fours.

But McCullagh ultimately ran out of partners as Cowperthwaite took two more wickets to wrap up a 17 run win for Kendal.
