HOPES the campaign for a satellite radiotherapy centre at Westmorland General Hospital will succeed were boosted this week when MP Tim Farron had what he described as a "really promising" meeting with the new chair of NHS England.
As chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group, he and a group of cross-party MPs presented Lord Prior with their manifesto for radiotherapy which calls for a one off £250m investment in radiotherapy satellite units, including in Kendal.
“The treatment is eight times more likely to cure you than chemotherapy but still only represents just five per cent of the UK’s cancer budget," said the Westmorland and Lonsdale MP.
“Our campaign for better access to this life saving treatment is gaining real momentum.
“With Parliament at absolute gridlock, cross-party working is more important than ever before so that we can make it easier for cancer patients to be closer to family and friends whilst receiving lifesaving treatment.”
