AMBLESIDE Together, the group who launched Love Ambleside to encourage tourism and economic recovery after the floods, is continuing to plan for the Festival of the Fells from September 22-25.
Two meetings are held each week, on Thursdays at Lakes Lodge at 5.30pm, and the festival planning committee meets on Mondays at The Regent Hotel at 5.30pm; all welcome at both.
Festival details are still being finalised, but top mountaineer Alan Hinkes has agreed to be patron of the first Festival of the Fells.
MORE TOP STORIES:
Alan, the first Briton to climb all the world’s 8,000m mountains, is an international mountain guide, writer, photographer, environmentalist and an active campaigner for a number of charities, and was awarded the OBE in 2006.
Festival organising committee member Clive Hutchby, who is currently revising Alfred Wainwright’s Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells, said: “We are delighted to have the biggest name in British mountaineering associated with our new event. It promises to be an exciting festival and we hope that it will become an annual highlight for Ambleside.”
