Millom School’s head teacher has praised his A-Level students for their hard work as they achieved 95 per cent A* to E grades and 61 per cent A* to Cs.

Ian Smith paid particular tribute to pupils Sarah White, who scooped an A* and three As and Katie Gaston who gained an A, two Bs and a C.

He said: “Once again I am delighted with the results which are a reflection of the students’ hard work and endeavours, as well as high quality teaching the students have received.

“I should like to recognise the achievements of Sarah and Katie. My expectation is that Sarah will use these results to access a degree in medicine at the University of Liverpool.

“Katie’s results are especially rewarding for her as she has battled adversity.”

The average points score per student receiving their A2 results shows an increase on last year.

Pam Atkinson, director of learning for sixth form, said: “The students have worked very hard to achieve their results.

“There have been some exceptional performances allowing students to secure their place at university.

“Congratulations to all students and I wish them the very best of luck for the future.”
