A whole lot of hidden treasures remain undiscovered in the Cumbrian county and of those treasures that have been recovered are lovingly restored and available for the public to come and view such as the historic building that we know as Muncaster Castle. Nestled on the West Coast of Cumbria, many a tale has been told of the ghostly beings and happenings in this historic castle.

The exact date of build is unknown but people believe that this building was constructed in the Roman era. This magnificent castle is a popular Lake District attraction that attracts thousands of visitors each year and is known as one of the best places for things to do Lake District.

The ghostly beings that haunt the halls of Muncaster castle also attract attention when it comes to Halloween. The castle most definitely gives off the aura that you are not alone. For those who really love a good scare this really is no exception, people from all over the world come to visit this old majestic castle in the hops to catch a glimpse of one the spectres or have a good fright all in the name of fun? It is said that you can near the wails of a baby at night and that cold footsteps echo in the long dark corridors at night. As this building is thought to have been erected in the Roman era, it’s no surprise that Roman remains have also been found, giving more foundation to the building date. As these remains have been uncovered so too has the rumour that a new ghostly character has been added to the spectre collection. Upon the discovery of these remains it has been said that wood chopping noises have been heard from the location of these remains and that light bulbs in close proximity have unexplainably exploded. Add this to the others such as the ghosts of the Tapestry room, Mary Bragg and Tom Fool and you really are set for a night of sheer terror, if that’s your thing!

Tom Fool was deemed a bit of a tyrant, back in his day (being approx 1600’s) when people would ask for directions to London he would be ever so mischievous and point in the direction of the nearest quicksand land, it is believed that many a traveller have lost their lives through his callousness. Current castle residents believe that he is responsible for the mysterious mischievous goings on in the castle. Mary Bragg met an untimely death through deception, she was led to a tree in the grounds and promptly murdered, it is said that when the tree at which she was murdered was chopped down that the tree bled! The tapestry room is believed to be the most haunted of all, this room had previously been a child’s nursery, hence the baby wails. Many a visitor have reported feelings of unease and discomfort. This is where most thrill seekers go to spend there time when thinking of things to do Lake District. So if you are ever in the Cumbria location and ever stuck for something for fancy a fright, a historical house may just be what you’re looking for.
