What is the best thing about The Lake District?

The people, the scenery and the location. In 20 minutes you can be in some of the most stunning parts of the world enjoying many outdoor and adventurous activities such as walking or gill scrambling. The Lake District really has it all.

And the worst?

The lack of facilities to keep young people entertained in the evening - and parking in Kendal.

Where is your favourite place?

I would have to say the view from Helsington Church - you can see from Grange right into the heart of the lakes, and of course a view of Whitbarrow Scar which has been my view from my home for 27 years.

And your favourite memory?

Childhood memories of weekend walks with my parents round Loughrigg and summer holidays spent playing in the village of Levens, in the woods and at the local playing fields.

Tell us about your favourite shop and place to eat?

My favourite place to shop is Low Sizergh Barn and I am a proud supporter of Levens village shop and post office. My favourite place to eat is the Masons Arms at Strawberry Bank - a fantastic atmosphere, good ales, a log fire and their famous ribs are the perfect start to any meal.

What one change would you make?

I think the buses are expensive and their timetables don’t meet local needs. Parking in Kendal and the new one way system are dreadful too - it seems every inch of available parking space has been taken up by a cycle route or pavements that are 8 ft wide.

Sum up the Lakes in five words:

Emotive, beautiful, interesting, peaceful and ours.
