WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT THE LAKES?

A bit cheesy -–but without a doubt the people and the scenery.

AND THE WORST?

Definitely the transport system, especially the A590 and the middle of Kendal. Those responsible for the so-called improvements to traffic flow in Kendal should be made to swim ten laps of Windermere. It is appalling. Traffic flow in Kendal is worse than ever.

FAVOURITE PLACE IN THE LAKES?

My favorite place is Ulverston, it has such a great community spirit and the town centre is still full of traditional shops. It’s a great place to live and visit because the locals make you feel so welcome. The Laurel and Hardy statue is fantastic!

FAVOURITE MEMORY OF THE LAKES?

Growing up on the family farm at Whittington in the heart of the picturesque Lune Valley. It is only now when I am stuck in an office that I truly appreciate how lucky I was to spend my early years living and working with nature.

FAVOURITE SHOP/PLACE TO EAT?

The Dragons Head Pub at Whittington – good simple British food cooked well and at a reasonable price. The landlord Dave is a star too, all in all a great place to eat or get merry.

WHAT ONE CHANGE WOULD YOU MAKE?

I would introduce free car parking for residents and remove half the traffic lights in Kendal.

SUM UP THE LAKES IN 5 WORDS.

Beautiful scenery and great people.
