On Thursday 21st August, 2008 I was invited to Kendal to receive one of the three 2012 Olympic Flags given to South Lakeland District Council from the organising committee of the 2012 Olympics in London. I received the flag from Cllr. Brendan Jameson, Leader of the Council.

On Sunday 24th August, 2008 I was invited by George Harris, Executive Director of Lanternhouse International Ltd., Ulverston to join them in Celebrating the Transfornational Journey to London 2012. The organisation had something special to celebrate as Stephen Powell the Creative Director of the Lanternhouse is also the Creative Director, London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Ceremonies Beijing 2008.

To mark this achievement and the handover ceremony they held a party. Adults and children watched with enthusiasm the closing ceremony. Artist in residence Sumit Sarkar was busy producing a digital piece of artwork based on the journey. Drinks and nibbles were handed round and a beautiful celebration cake in the form of the RED LONDON BUS (complete with athlete passengers) had been baked.

I had the opportunity to speak with Stephen Powells wife who was telling me of the logistical problems that occur when putting on such an event on the other side of the World. The idea for the 8 minute tableau was conceived and worked upon in the Lantern house, Ulverston. This brings organisations and artists to work in the area, which is becoming renowned for it's creative atmosphere.
