A MUCH loved furniture store which has been in Keswick for over 130 years has announced it will close next weekend.

John Young Furnishings, the furniture, interiors, and antiques shop that has been trading in the town centre for 134 years, is set to close on Saturday, May 11.

Its ‘retirement sale’ was announced a couple of months ago and John Young has confirmed the shop will close next weekend.

“The response to the closing down sale has been very good,” said John Young. “All the remaining stock is now on the ground floor – apart from the last of the rugs which we have displayed on the first floor, these are now half price.

“We are in the last few days of the sale and there are many lovely items still available. What remains is still the best quality you can find, and as we are keen to clear as much as possible, we are looking forward to talking to customers about further deals.

"We don’t normally open on Bank Holidays Mondays, but we will be doing so this Monday as we know we have customers from away who want to call in.

“Throughout this whole process, the team have been fantastic, and I would like to reiterate my thanks and appreciation to Liz Weightman our shop manager and to our sales consultants Ian Bird and Adele McEwan.

"They have worked very hard to make sure orders have been fulfilled and that the shop looks its best at all times.

“Finally, we would like to thank all our loyal customers for their generations of support. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many lovely people and to be involved in helping furnish their homes.”

The shop has been keeping customers up to date on their social media and website clearance pages and will continue to feature products and any last minute offers, the business added.
