BBC Escape to the Country visits Ulverston with trip to Hoad Monument

The series is dedicated to helping prospective buyers find their dream home in the country.

First aired in 2002, the format involves the buyers viewing three or four properties for sale, including a 'mystery house', in their chosen area.

This can include rentals, new-builds, kit-homes, renovation projects, or even plots of land with potential for building.

Rumours have circulated on social media for a number of weeks that the crew would be coming to Furness.

Around two weeks ago, a TV producer called upon locals in an Ulverston Facebook group to recommend the best and most interesting independent businesses in the town, along with their owners.

It seems the plans came to fruition as the BBC went to have a chat with the town Mayor.

Michelle Scrogham said: "They visited Ulverston to film an upcoming show.

"We talked about what makes Ulverston such a wonderful place to live, what it’s like to be Mayor - I could talk for hours on either of those, I’m so proud of the place - and then told them about numerous local independent business owners they should chat with.

"We ended by talking about the festivals I help organise, and particularly Dickensian, before I mentioned our latest festival, Light Up Hoad and arranged a visit to the monument so they could get one of the best views in Furness."

Ulverston properties were previously featured on the BBC programme in October 2023 when the crew came to visit and interview Alicia Griffiths from estate agents Poole Townsend.

Presenter Steve Brown helped a couple of newlyweds who wished to escape South London and set down roots in the stunning countryside of Cumbria.
