Firefighters in Milnthorpe used their work to highlight the dangers of open water this week.

The crew took part in their weekly drill night on Monday evening, with the training focused on water awareness.

During the session, they got to practise the techniques that save the lives of people who find themselves cut adrift in bodies of water, such as lakes and rivers.

The team explained: "Our drill was about water awareness as we respond to a lot of water incidents, with one of the rescue techniques we use being a throw line.

"We have two throw lines on the fire appliance, and we can use them to assist rescuing casualties from water related incidents.

"When rescuing a casualty from water, we can use the throw line to pull them to safety, this is a simple and effective rescue technique."
