A popular takeaway and restaurant in Kendal has announced that it will be closing by the end of the month.

The team at Mumbai Restaurant announced on Friday that their final day of business will be on Sunday, April 21.

The business has served the town for over two decades.

The owners said: "After 20 unforgettable years of serving the best Indian cuisine, it is time we hang up our aprons and bid farewell to Kendal.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the retirement of Mumbai Restaurant - we, Abdul, Ala, and Salim, want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support, loyalty, and love throughout these years."

The team was hopeful that, despite the sadness of the news, they would be able to see plenty of their customers before their doors shut for the last time.

"We hope to see you all before we leave and hope the memories of Mumbai can be looked back on with happiness and smiles," the team said.

"We will miss you all dearly - until then, please continue to come in and enjoy our food."

They took the time to thank the area and its people for keeping the business going for so many years.

"To our wonderful friends in Kendal, you have truly become family to us," they explained.

"Your patronage and friendship have meant the world to us, and we will forever cherish the bonds we've formed over shared meals and conversations."

The response from customers was one of disappointment at the departure, as well as gratitude for the two decades of service.

One local said: "Had some great food and had loads of great nights in your restaurant over the years, thank you lads and good luck for the future."

Another commented: "Loved this restaurant - went that often, the wonderful staff always gave us the same table and knew what drinks we wanted - food was amazing always."
