A DAD died after he was crushed by a tree while working in his garden after a major storm, an inquest heard.
Michael Colin Sarginson, from Windermere, was working in the garden on November 14, the day after Storm Debi, when a large branch detached from a tree and fell on him.
Sustaining serious injuries, the 81-year-old was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
The retired mechanic suffered a number of serious chest injuries, the inquest was told.
An inquest at Accrington Town Hall heard Mr Sarginson deteriorated despite receiving treatment and died on November 23.
Coroner Christopher Long concluded Mr Sarginson's death was an accident.
Storm Debi brought strong winds and heavy rain to south Cumbria last November.
