A local football club has decided to outright ban 'mini' shin pads across its youth team set up.

The news was announced by Kendal United FC on Friday morning, with the club feeling that the unorthodox equipment could lead to problems down the line.

'Mini' shin pads have been a growing trend in the sport over recent years, with a number of the biggest sporting stars seen to be wearing them.

A spokesperson from Kendal United FC said: "In our opinion, they do not provide adequate protection and leave our young players exposed to potential injury.

"Our managers and coaches will be carrying out checks to ensure that all our players are protected properly on match days and in training."

The club added that they hoped parents would help support the policy to keep their 'young players safe'.
