A COUPLE flew all the way from Sydney to celebrate their wedding with family and friends in the Lake District.

Kathryn Douglas, a 41-year-old Commercial Manager in Engineering and Construction, has tied the knot to Kris Seneviratne, a 37-year-old IT Solution Architect.

Kathryn, with family based in Penrith and Kendal, met Kris eight years ago in Doha, Qatar, when working for the same company.

"Kris is very kind, happy-go-lucky, a very supportive partner, shares the same family values as me, and is an amazing cook," she said.

Kris said: "Kathryn is patient and kind. We both shared a keen interest in running and cycling. She likes adventures and taking the time to smell the flowers and is very close to her family".

The pair got engaged during the pandemic and officially married in Sydney in November 2023.

However, their wedding celebration was at Town Head Estate on December 20 2023, with 70 people present, some of whom had flown from Sydney and America to celebrate the special occasion.

"We had a wonderful day," said the lovebirds.

"The ceremony performed by celebrant Kerrie Low was very personal and interactive, with readings by James Douglas (bride's brother) and Imalka Reece (groom's sister).

"Town Head is an amazing venue, the barn is beautiful and all the staff really take care of you. Our flowers were beautiful, and the cake stunning. The speeches were all heartfelt, with a good amount of humour.

"The band House of Sax were incredible, and everyone danced the night away with a break in the middle for cheese toasties.

"It was so special to celebrate with family and friends, especially after being away from home for so long and not being able to travel home during Covid. We are so glad we waited to have our wedding in the UK and absolutely loved our chosen venue."

Following the wedding, they had a mini-moon at Lodore Falls Hotel in Keswick for two nights. After that, they went straight into Christmas and New Year with all of the families.

"It was very special as we hadn't had a Christmas in the UK for seven years.

"We are planning to have a honeymoon later this year. However, we are currently debating Sri Lanka, Bali or New Zealand," concluded the couple.
