Lancashire and South Cumbria health bosses are urging eligible locals to book their autumn Covid-19 boosters with appointments ending in a months time.

The National Booking Service is scheduled to finish its appointments on December 14, but some walk-in and outreach clinics will continue to offer vaccines beyond this date.

With Covid-19 still circulating in the region, getting vaccinated is the most effective way to safeguard not only yourself, but also family and friends this festive period.

Since the vaccination programme's latest phase commenced in September, close to 350,000 vaccines have been dispensed to those most at risk of severe illness from the virus in Lancashire and South Cumbria.

However, many eligible individuals have yet to come forward.

Eligible persons include everyone 65 and older, expectant mothers, those with a pre-existing health condition, and frontline health and social care workers.

They are encouraged to schedule their autumn booster so that it occurs at least three months after their last dose.

Carole McCann, chief nurse for the Lancashire and South Cumbria vaccination programme, said: "Getting vaccinated is the best protection against serious illness and hospitalisation from Covid-19."

"At this time of year, where people are likely to be gathering with work colleagues, friends, and, of course, family get-togethers over Christmas and New Year, it is important to get protected."

The local Covid-19 vaccination helpline 0300 7906 856 is available for more information and to help you locate a vaccination service near you.

Appointments may be made through the NHS App, or by calling 119, or visiting www.nhs.uk/seasonalvaccinations.

Some pharmacies and other vaccine services offer walk-in clinics, and the closest location can be found on the NHS website.
