After earning promotion last season Kendal were looking forward to their opening match in the North West Division 3 North league against Golborne.

The game started with Kendal controlling possession and building play slowly from the back. A loose pass in midfield was intercepted by Golborne who broke quickly earning themselves a penalty corner which they converted giving the visitors an early lead.

Kendal didn't panic, though, and they continued to build play and started to increase their intensity. A deft touch by Aaron Screen in the Golborne D left Ewan Galloway free to get Kendal on the scoreboard. The away team, although denied possession for large periods, were dangerous in breakaways and won themselves another penalty corner against the run of play. However, Kendal proved themselves to be equally capable in breakaway situations. Ayrton Boyd finished well scoring Kendal's second goal from the breakdown of the Golborne corner.

Kendal continued to be dominant and Tyson Barclay made it 3-1 to Kendal by capitalising on Jack Kerr's ball stealing harassment of the Golborne defensive line.

The second half was played out in much the same vein as the first. Kendal dominated the play with slick passing moves leading to the Golborne keeper being one of the busiest men on the field.

Golborne still posed a threat with pace on the break, but sterling work at the back from Blunt, Davis, Millington and Woodman reduced the visitors chances to but a few. Rob Cartwright made light work of any threats to his goal, nonchalantly swatting away a top-corner shot as if it were an annoying insect. John Stanworth was rampant down the right flank for Kendal creating chance after chance and winning a flurry of penalty corners.

Kendal debutant Simon Millington added to his solid performance at the back by recycling the ball well to convert over an advancing keeper for Kendal's fourth goal. Another penalty corner for Kendal led to a series of improvised passes that found Millington waiting to round off his man of the match performance by dispatching his second and Kendal's fifth goal. There was no improvisation needed for Kendal's final goal as yet another penalty corner was converted.

Aaron Screen completed the Green's tally with a glorious drag flick to the top left corner of the Golborne net.
