TWO portraits of unknown World War 1 soldiers have gone on display at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life in Carlisle Castle as part of its ongoing Voices from the Somme Exhibition.
The portraits which were donated to the museum were bought in an antiques shop in Carlisle years ago. The portraits were hidden behind other prints.
All the museum know about the soldiers is that one is wearing the World War 1 Australian uniform and it is appealing for help in finding out who the men were and what connections they have with Cumbria if any.

Stuart Eastwood, curator at Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life said:
“The voices from the Somme Exhibition and the Somme 100 project where our volunteers have been out in the community gathering stories from the public has been a wonderful experience for all the staff and volunteers at the Museum.
"The public have been telling us their family stories and contributing to the exhibition. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have family connections with the men in any of the pictures and to please get in touch with us at the museum."
