A KENDAL dance group have enjoyed two successful days of fundraising.

Dance Attik has been raising money for the Children's Heart Unit in Newcastle, which performed life saving surgery on one of its members.

Skye Wilson received a heart transplant at the unit in 2009 and wanted to give something back.

Over two Saturdays in the Westmorland Shopping Centre, Kendal, members of the group danced and raised £596.11.

Lucy Everett, the group's dance teacher, said that the events had been 'absolutely fantastic'.

"They've gone amazingly. The girls did two 40 minute shows on both days," she said. "Hopefully we raised awareness about organ donation and the opt-out system."

Skye's mum, Tracey, has been campaigning to change the law on organ donation - she would like England to adopt a system whereby individuals are automatically enrolled to donate their organs rather than having to 'opt-in' to do so.

Lucy said that the group had also baked and sold cakes, and men had also had heart shapes waxed from their chests for the cause.
