A MAN who threw a slab of concrete at a South Lakeland district councillor has been ordered to carry out unpaid work by magistrates.
Ian Disley, 35, of Mandeville Street, Liverpool, pleaded guilty to common assault when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard how Disley had thrown a concrete paving slab at a group of people stood outside Ruskin’s Bar, in Kendal, after an argument about his coat that had a liquid spilled over it on January 12.
Lee Dacre, prosecuting, told the court that the concrete slab hit Cllr Phil Walker, who represents Heron Hill on SLDC and is also a Kendal town councillor, in the chest and an ambulance had to be called to tend to him.
In mitigation, Christopher Evans said Disley had given a full admission and apology to police and accepted responsibility for his actions.
Disley was ordered to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work and to pay £85 in costs, a £60 victim surcharge and £100 in compensation to Cllr Walker.
