THE Flying Scotsman – which has been restored at a cost of £4.2 million – will steam along the West Coast Main Line and down the Settle to Carlisle Line on on Saturday.

The news comes after an earlier visit was cancelled due to brake problems.

It is scheduled to pass through Oxenholme at 11.43am and Tebay at 11.59am.

The historic locomotive is expected to pass over Ribblehead Viaduct at 16.23pm after a stop for water at 15.16pm at Appleby.

On its website, the Railway Touring Company confirmed that if the 60103 The Flying Scotsman passes its test run it will haul the Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express on Saturday.

If The Flying Scotsman is not available then the train will be hauled by the 46233 Duchess of Sutherland.

The Flying Scotsman, which was first built in 1923 is currently painted in a 'glorious black.'
