TWO people are in hospital with serious injuries after a four-vehicle incident on the M6 northbound between Junction 36 (Crooklands) and 37 (Sedbergh).
Ambulance crews and police attended the scene at 1.17pm and closed the motorway for three hours while they dealt with the incident.
That stretch of the M6 has now reopened both northbound and southbound and traffic is clearing.
But diversions have led to heavy traffic on roads around Kendal.
Initially, the North West Ambulance Service called for an air ambulance, but that was sent back to base.
Traffic was tailing back as far as Junction 34 at Lancaster and motorists should be advised that there is likely to still be slight tailbacks.
