RESCUERS helped to reunite a sheepdog with its master after a long, cold night out in the Patterdale wilds.

At about 5pm on Monday, October 5, a shepherd reported that his dog, Kim, was stuck on tough terrain in the East Chockstone Gulley.

The shepherd was clearing sheep with his pack of dogs when Kim, a blue merle Border Collie, became stranded on a ledge.

Despite his best efforts, the shepherd could not reach the dog and, with darkness falling, Patterdale Mountain Rescue were called into action.

Unfortunately, with thick mist descending, the search was postponed until first light today (Tuesday, October 6).

It was not long until Kim came into view and technical climbing gear was used to ascend the steep gulley, which was full of loose, wet rock.

Once rescuers had got to Kim, another rope system was used to descend back down the gulley and she was reunited with her owner after a long, damp night.

Both shepherd and dog are believed to be doing well.
