RESIDENTS of a Kendal estate can finally begin to look forward to a new play park after a year of fundraising.

The current play park on Sandylands is worn and tired and access into the park is very restrictive for anyone who is disabled or parents with buggies.

But after a £49,000 boost from a national funder, the £133,000 target has now been reached and the people behind the scheme will now seek out a contractor to build the park.

Community Worker Jonny Gios who has been part of the fund raising group said: “When we heard that we had received the £49,000 boost for our play park, it was a dream come true. It’s thanks to many parents and stakeholders in the community that have really got behind this to make this dream a reality. I’m so delighted that this is going to benefit our children/young people and adults of Sandylands estate”.

Over the last year residents have held a number of fund raising events including bag packing at ASDA, open garden days, aerobics night, nearly new sale and a sponsored toddle.

The vision of the park is to have equipment for all ages and all abilities - including equipment for Sandgate School.

New equipment will hopefully include equipment for toddlers and gym equipment for adults, as well the site being improved overall for access.
